The SI cover jinx has been around for a lot longer than the madden curse: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/cover/2002/jinx/main/
Although hype about the curse seems to have quieted down after the black cat cover, I still get nervous anytime I see a Mets player featured on the cover.
